Sergey Stepanenko

The Creative Biography of Sergey is diverse one in both nature and geography. From a number of hobbies, such as Mathematics, Ichthyology, Paleontology, Sergey chose painting, and graduated from Art school in Frunze. He designed stages for television musical programs and Puppet Theater, continued drawing and painting, and was a teacher at the art school. Later he entered the Printing Institute in Moscow, where he received a MA in book design.

During the ten years of study he was lucky with his teachers. Painting, composition and Art History Teachers, such as Fyodor Stukoshin, was a disciple of Alexander Osmerkin, and Natalia Goncharova, the Daughter of Andrei Goncharov, kept the traditions of Russian art of the early 20th century. Sergey has very fond memories, and appreciation of his Teachers. From the late 70s to mid 90s Sergey actively participated in exhibitions in Frunze, Crimea and in Moscow.

In 1995 Sergey moved with his family to the United States, and had the challenge of adapting to a new life, but was also opened up new opportunities. Only three months after arriving in America, he participated in several exhibitions in Darien and New York City. He sold his first paintings. Further, fate was very kind to Sergey. He met with renowned designers, and did commissions for Presidential families, and world famous celebrities. Sergey had large-scale projects on a series of ships built in France for the Celebrity Cruise line. While working in France, Sergey met with French Designers, as well as other Designers from England and Greece, from which he received commissions. Sergey’s work on cruise ships lasted 14 years. During this time he had traveled around the world, and his childhood dreams came true. Regarding travel, Sergey’s series of landscapes prints “Traveler Series” sold thousands of copies on cruise ships. Working on large custom-made paintings, Sergey continues to exhibit his art in various galleries. Now his work is represented in four Connecticut galleries, Sergey is currently a member of the artists guild SPAG. He is actively working in his studio in Norwalk, CT, and in constant search for new art forms of expression. Once during an exam in Art History, a teacher asked: “Which of the artists of the 20th Century Sergey would call the greatest and why?” “Picasso,” said Sergey. “His absolute freedom in style and expression, based on the greatest skill and inner world.” Many years have passed, however, Picasso remains an idol, not in a direct imitation, but in the way he perceived and depicted life, painting, and his freedom. August 2019, Sergey Started to work for Scenic Studios in CT and NY, participate projects: Broadway Show “ Sunday”, TV Serials “ The Sinner” and “The Flight Attendant.”
